Abraha, the Abyssinian viceroy of Yemen, marched with elephants to destroy the Ka'bah. Divine intervention sent flocks of birds that pelted the army with clay stones, decimating them (mentioned in Surah Al-Fil). This occurred approximately 50 days before the Prophet's birth.
