Detailed Account

Born to Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib (who had died 6 months earlier) and Aminah bint Wahb. His grandfather Abdul-Muttalib named him 'Muhammad' (the praised one), an uncommon name among Arabs at the time. The birth was accompanied by signs: Aminah saw a light emanating from her that illuminated palaces in Syria, and Persian fire temples reportedly extinguished.
