The Hijrah (Migration to Madinah)
الهجرة النبوية
Makkah to Madinah
After 13 years of persecution in Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr migrated to Madinah (then Yathrib), narrowly escaping an assassination plot. They hid in the Cave of Thawr for three days before completing the journey. This migration marks Year 1 of the Islamic calendar.
Significance
The Hijrah established the first Muslim community (Ummah) with political autonomy and marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
