Detailed Account
The Prophet's ﷺ arrival in Madinah was a scene of unprecedented celebration and joy. People of all ages lined the streets in their finest clothes, singing 'Tala'al-Badru 'Alayna' (The Full Moon Has Risen Upon Us)—a song that became historically significant as the first Islamic nasheed. Madinan families eagerly competed for the honor of hosting him, each calling out: 'Come to us, O Messenger of Allah!' To avoid showing preference, he released the reins of his camel Qaswa saying: 'Let her go, for she is commanded [by Allah].' The camel knelt at a piece of land owned by two orphans, Sahl and Suhayl, where he would build his mosque and residence. Until construction was completed, he stayed with Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, whose home was nearest to the selected site. This temporary residence lasted about seven months. In a beautiful gesture, Abu Ayyub insisted the Prophet ﷺ stay on the upper floor while he and his wife remained below, but when the Prophet ﷺ preferred the ground floor for easier accessibility to visitors, Abu Ayyub moved downstairs despite his concern about being above the Prophet ﷺ. This joyful reception contrasted sharply with the persecution in Makkah and fulfilled Allah's promise of establishing the believers in a position of honor after their trials. The enthusiastic welcome demonstrated the Ansar's deep commitment to the covenant made at Aqabah and their recognition of the Prophet's ﷺ religious and political leadership, marking the beginning of the first true Islamic society.
